Booting from Floppy for Professional version

  1. Create a bootable floppy (Download and run Bootable Floppy Disk Creator for Active@ KillDisk).
  2. Create a folder on you hard drive called Killdisk.
  3. Download your file (the one from the link you received after purchasing the software) to this folder.
  4. You should have a folder called Killdisk, with a file KD-SETUP.EXE in it. This file is a self extracting executable. Double click on this file. It will extract files into the Killdisk folder.
  5. You will now have a folder containing kd-setup.exe and some other files. Copy the other files (not kd-setup.exe) to a floppy.
If you are short on room, the only files required to run the program are killdisk.exe, and dos4gw.exe.
  6. Boot with a bootable disk.
  7. If killdisk and dos4gw.exe files are on the bootable floppy, run killdisk. If they are on a different floppy, remove the bootable floppy and insert the floppy that contains killdisk, and run killdisk.

  2. This downloads an ISO IMAGE (not a regular file) that needs to be burned to the CD AS AN IMAGE (not as an added file).

Bootable ISO Image for Professional version

  1. Download Bootable ISO Image of Active@ KillDisk to burn CD.
  2. This downloads an ISO IMAGE (not a regular file) that needs to be burned to the CD AS AN IMAGE (not as an added file).
  3. Put the purchased software file on a different CD.
  4. Boot from the prepared CD image (see above #2).
  5. Switch CD's and run the purchased version of the software.

Alternatively, if you are comfortable with ISO images, there is a program WINISO (made by a different software company) that allows you to alter ISO images.
You could use this software to remove the killdisk.exe file that is in the demo ISO image, and replace it with the killdisk.exe you got from your purchased version. Then you should have a single bootable CD with the purchased version of the software.

Now you are ready to boot from the floppy/CD and use the software for disk erasing.
